What the extension does

Turtle Web Clipper converts a webpage or a user-selected passage into Markdown, lets you edit the result, and saves it to the local Turtle Notes app, copies it to your clipboard or saves it as a local file when you choose that action.

Page content

When you invoke capture, the extension reads the page title, source URL, selected HTML or main page content needed for conversion. It does not monitor browsing history or record your activity in the background. Page content is processed in your browser and is not sent to a developer-operated server. We do not operate a service to receive your clips.

Storage and Chrome Sync

Temporary capture snapshots may be kept in Chrome session storage while you open the clipper. They may be consumed once or replaced by another capture; Chrome clears session storage when the browser session ends. Display language, appearance, default export action, Notes destination and default tags are stored using Chrome storage.sync. Depending on your browser/account settings, Google may sync these preferences between your devices. These preferences are not sent to the developer. Pending native saves, including the clip and prepared image bytes, are kept in local extension storage until the save outcome is known so retries can reuse the same request. This pending content is not stored using Chrome Sync.

Your exports and images

Copied text and downloaded Markdown are under your control and may be retained by your operating system, clipboard history, file backup or other applications you choose to use. Markdown file and clipboard exports retain image URLs; opening an exported document may cause your chosen reader to request images from their original hosts. When you choose Save to Notes on macOS Chrome, the extension downloads images from their original hosts, using the captured page context and available session credentials where permitted, and sends the clip and image bytes to your local Turtle Notes app through Native Messaging. Cross-origin downloads may request permission for the image hosts. Failed downloads retain a usable remote URL and show a warning. Notes manages saved notes, attachments and any synchronization enabled in the native app.

Advertising, analytics and remote code

The extension does not include advertising, tracking analytics, or a third-party crash reporting service. All executable extension code is packaged with the extension. We do not sell captured content or use it for advertising, unrelated profiling, creditworthiness or lending decisions.

Support and deletion

If you contact support, we receive the email and information you voluntarily send. Include only a minimal non-sensitive example. Removing the extension stops future capture. Saved Notes content, exported files and clipboard copies must be managed separately; browser-managed storage and synchronized settings are subject to Chrome and your account settings. Google controls the operation of Chrome Sync under your browser/account settings.

Limited use and this website

Captured page content and its source URL are used only for the clipping, editing, local Notes saving and export features you invoke. They are not sold, used for personalized advertising or read by the developer through a content backend. This public information page is hosted by GitHub Pages; normal website delivery may involve technical request data handled by GitHub under its privacy policy, separately from extension capture.

Permissions

• activeTab / scripting: read the current page or selected frame only after you invoke capture.
• contextMenus: offer whole-page and selection capture actions.
• clipboardWrite: copy the Markdown only when you choose Copy.
• storage / unlimitedStorage: store preferences, temporary capture snapshots and pending native requests with image bytes for safe retries.
• nativeMessaging: deliver confirmed clips to the local Turtle Notes app.
• Optional host permissions: download images from the specific hosts requested when saving to Notes.
